#5. A Nightmare on Elm Street

One of the most underrated but still one of the best-conceptualized movies of all time. A movie inspired by stories of young men dying while sleeping and dreaming. The series revolves around the fictional character Freddy Krueger, a former child killer who after being burned alive by the vengeful parents of his victims, returns from the grave to terrorize and kill the teenage residents of Springwood, Ohio in their dreams. The original film was written and directed by Craven, who returned to co-script the second sequel.

We don’t want to get into detail but be rest assured, this will leave you sleepless after watching.

#4. Silent Hill 1 & 2

Silent Hill has to be one of the creepiest and scariest series of all time. The movie is a horror franchise centered on a series of survival horror video games, developed, and published by Konami. It focuses on corruption in the world, humanity, society, and explores the darkness and evil side of humanity. This movie is extremely disturbing, scary, and full of nightmares and is not recommended for the faint of heart, or those who may suffer cardiac arrest (heart attacks) from jump scares.

#3. The Conjuring 1, 2 & 3

It is known as the scariest movie of all time, but some critics do disagree. The Conjuring has one of the best jump-scares we have seen in any modern horror movie, and it certainly is not for the faint of hearts. The Conjuring follows the story of two paranormal investigators (Ed & Lorraine Warren) who try to help a family overcome the dark presence in their farmhouse. The Conjuring is an experience that all lovers of horror movies should try out when you are bored.

#2. The Babadook

Many still shiver from hearing the name. Babadook follows the life of a single mother who is plagued by the death of her husband but eventually finds out that her son’s fear of a non-existent monster is actually not so non-existent after all. Many critics love how the simplest of the objects and activities in the movie, is used to induce a sense of fear and nightmares for the viewers. The Babadook is a relatively new movie, so you should still be able to find it on Netflix in 4K.

#1. Paranormal Activity Series

Paranormal Activity is a low-budget horror film that became a phenomenon. Using the found footage style, the film centers around a couple who are haunted by a supernatural event in their home. They decided to buy a video camera and investigate these bizarre occurrences in their house. The storytelling is excellent and feels especially authentic. And it does an amazing job of incrementally building the suspense and increasing the intensity of every scene. With blood-chilling terrors and disturbing imagery, Paranormal Activity delivers an extraordinarily terrifying experience.
