Weak sauce? Pittsburgh restaurants boycotting buffalo sauce ahead of Bills-Steelers game

If you’re craving Chicken McNuggets with Buffalo dipping sauce in the Pittsburgh region over the next few days, you might have to opt for a different sauce as the Pittsburgh Steelers gear up for their Wild Card matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Several McDonald’s establishments in Pittsburgh are taking a stand by not providing customers with Buffalo dipping sauce until after the Steelers’ game against the Bills. One store owner, Meghan Sweeney, explained her decision to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, stating, “I’m shutting down the Buffalo sauce this week — just like the Black and Gold are going to stop the Bills on Sunday.”

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review also highlighted a post from Bubba’s Gourmet Burghers & Beer, announcing the removal of Buffalo sauce and Buffalo chicken dip from their menu until after the game. Their Facebook post emphasized, “You can order ANY other flavor, but we will NOT be selling Buffalo Sauce all week long!!!!”

Although these sauce boycotts appear to be limited, a few Pittsburgh businesses are leveraging the decision to generate positive publicity around their refusal to sell Buffalo sauces and dips.
